Xàtiva Badminton Club Shines at Top TTR Absolute and Senior Tournament, Bringing Home Six Medals

The Xàtiva Badminton Club has returned from the Top TTR Absolute and Senior tournament held in Campello with six medals. The club’s athletes have hung themselves two golds, two silvers and two bronzes in the competition held last Sunday in the Alicante town. CB Xàtiva attended the tournament with eight athletesafter the absences, due to muscle discomfort, of Santiago Villanueva and Carlos Martínez.

In the senior category, In the C2 singles event, Juan Carlos Hintze won the gold medal after winning all matches, without giving up any set. Juan Carlos added another gold in the men’s doublesin which he was paired with Maximinio Hernández, from CB Las Torres, and they were proclaimed champions after beating Jorge Catalá and Manuel Ángel Sierra, number 1 seeds in the tournament, in the final, by 21-18 and 22-20.

In the C1 category, José Luis Llopis touched gold in the individual final, who lost to Jorge Catalá by 11-21, 21-17 and 21-14. The Setabeense This is how silver was achieved and the same metal was hung on the double, who played with Daniel Meseguer, and competed in the B1-B2 category. In the decisive match they fell 21-11 and 21-18 against Víctor Buades and Toni Martínez. Meseguer also placed fourth in the B1 individual.

In the senior category, Badminton Xàtiva participated with three athletes, two from U-23 and one from U-19. In women’s singles, Andrea Orquín won the bronze medal, after losing in the semifinals against Gemma Tejedor, in a highly contested match, in three sets, in which the first fell to the San Fernando player, 21-16. Andrea recovered and in the second set she was more decisive, winning 22-24. The third, very close, went to Tejedor, who left the Setabense, U-19 player, with the bronze and a handful of points. David Polop reached the quarterfinals in men’s singles, where he lost to Akis Leo Thomas by 21-12 and 21-15.

In mixed doubles, Vicent Molina and Andrea Orquín won the other bronze medal. They lost in the semifinals to Mario Serrano and Lucía Barbero, from CB Albacete, 21-17, 15-21, 21-13. Vicent and David also played the men’s doubles, where they lost in the quarterfinals to Albert Ivars and Ginés Vallés by 21-12 and 21-16.

The Xàtiva Badminton Club also contested the second regional day of the Sports Games in the children’s category, which took place last Saturday in Enguera. The event brought together 65 players, 9 of them from the Setabe club, who achieved a 37% victory in the individual events and 44% in the doubles events. The performance of Martina Molina stood out, who achieved full victories, four wins in four games, and that of Feliu Terol, with three victories. From CB Xàtiva they point out that the club’s athletes “have been below their usual percentages”, which “reflects the need to continue working and improving in all areas, especially with athletes who have started in recent years” .

The Xàtiva Badminton Club will play next Saturday the second regional day of the Sports Games in the cadet category, which will take place in the Campello.
