The Malaysian squad hopes to follow in the charming footsteps of the Indonesian national team in the 2023 Asian Cup

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – The Malaysian squad is looking at the match with all the impossibility of qualifying for the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup against Bahrain, Saturday (20/1/2024) tonight.

Harimau Malaya’s fate is almost the same as the Indonesian national team when they face Vietnam in the second match of Group D of the 2023 Asian Cup.

Losing in ranking, Vietnam was initially favored over Indonesia. However, Shin Tae-yong’s squad proved their strength by playing more brilliantly and winning by three points.

The Malaysian national team is currently still optimistic and maintaining hope of being able to follow in the footsteps of its neighboring country, Indonesia.

The Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, has confidence and trust in the Malaysian National Team coach, Kim Pan-gon, to bring her team through to the last 16.

Because from Hannah’s point of view, Kim has proven his quality by increasing the level of the Malaysian squad in his two years in office.

Especially in terms of FIFA rankings, Malaysia managed to improve its position from initially being at number 154, up to 130th.

From this achievement, Hannah is confident that looking at the Malaysia vs Bahrain duel, Harimau Malaya can win hands down and take three points.

“Pan Gon has succeeded in improving Malaysia’s quality and ranking (from No. 154 to No. 130) in just two years,” said Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, as reported by NST.

“I’m sure only he knows the strategy, even though there are discussions on social media. I feel like only he knows,” Hannah added.

The optimism of the Minister of Youth and Sports from the neighboring country was welcomed by the Malaysian national team defender, Shahrul Saad, who said he would produce special results on the second matchday.

He believes that Malaysia still has a chance to win three points so that they can maintain their hopes of qualifying for the round of 16.

“We are mentally and physically ready for this match. The atmosphere in the camp has returned to normal, and we are determined to do something special,” explained Shahrul.

Even though the Minister of Youth and Sports is confident, reviews from the Malaysian media themselves say that the chances of the national team squad winning over Bahrain are quite slim.
