Sébastien Ogier 2nd in the Monte-Carlo Rally: “It promises an exciting fight”

“What assessment do you draw from this day?
I’m glad I managed to come back. We suffered a little with our starting position (4th) yesterday (Thursday) evening, again a little this (Friday) morning, but we were able to limit the damage. And finally we took back time for the whole day. Now the gaps are very close. We will have the same road conditions tomorrow (Saturday) and that promises an exciting fight, a great duel between the three of us.

What were the road conditions like?
It was hard. There was no snow but a lot of changes in grip, patches of ice, a lot of pollution on the road, mud, dirt. During the last night stage, it was really complicated. We’re happy to be here, especially with the pace we managed to set. We mainly caught up in a special stage (SS5), I don’t really know why to be honest. We will meet her again on Sunday morning but it could be quite a task (smile). There it was a field of mud, and it will probably refreeze at 7 o’clock in the morning.

“For me the most important thing is to try to win the rally. I don’t care about the points, and we could have some surprises at the end of the weekend. »

Regarding Saturday’s stages, are there any that particularly worry you?
I don’t think there is any easy stage on a Monte-Carlo. The first (SS9, departure at 8:05 a.m.) risks being the most complicated with frost and frost during the night. Once again our ushers will have work to do to show us the best conditions. This could be tricky.

Are you thinking about Saturday night’s 18 points?
I’m not sure I want to think about that kind of math. Nobody understands this scale anyway. For me the most important thing is to try to win the rally. I don’t care about the points, and we could have some surprises at the end of the weekend. »
