Japanese Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team Prepares for Paris Paralympics with Intensive Training Camp

The Japanese women’s wheelchair basketball team, which has qualified for the Paris Paralympics, held an open training camp at the Ajinomoto National Training Center (NTC) East in Kita-ku, Tokyo on the 23rd, and captain Kitada Chihiro (Cocktail) expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “We want to cause an upset, get into the medal race, and surprise the world.”

Japan qualified in the final qualifying round held in Osaka in April, but Kitada feels a sense of crisis, saying, “We are the eighth team out of the eight teams currently participating.” During the training camp, he is working on improving his shooting ability, which is an issue for him, including his “low pointer,” which is a relatively severe impairment.

They will continue to hone their tactical skills through repeated training camps with the national team, including a trip to Australia at the end of June.
