In the Castelli Romani it was a rather quiet night as regards the explosions of firecrackers and homemade devices, there were no serious injuries recorded in the Castelli hospitals.
The local firefighters had to intervene to put out some fires involving recycling cartons and some firecrackers that had set fire to paper stacked in the center of Ariccia. Numerous interventions by firefighters also in the capital due to car and bin fires. There were also some accidents between midnight and 4:00 am, fortunately not serious, in various municipalities and in the capital with some drunk drivers. There were many checks by the Carabinieri, the State Police and the Traffic Police on the main arteries with the use of alcohol and drug tests. Some injured people arrived in hospital following violent arguments perhaps due to alcohol fumes after midnight, with the use of knives, but there were no people in serious conditions, events which occurred between Castelli Romani, Litorale and Tivoli.
In Genzano some cars were found with flat tires by their owners in some central areas, perhaps due to the night-time actions of vandals. In Anzio a man was shot in the calf in the street, the police are investigating.
On New Year’s Eve, the Rome VDF command carried out a total of 160 interventions, largely due to bin fires, blocked elevators, rescues for people inside homes and several road accidents. Of note is the fire in a warehouse containing various goods and work machinery in Via dell’Acqua Vergine n. 200 and a serious road accident in via Tancredi di Chiaraluce where two people were taken to hospital by 118 in serious conditions.
As part of the New Year celebrations, in via della Stazione di Cesano, it was learned that unknown persons had set off a firecracker which damaged the perimeter wall of the Infantry School – Italian Army. The Carabinieri of the Rome Cassia Company were on site.
