Medvedev Triumphs Over Zverev in Epic Australian Open Semi-Final Battle

• In an exciting first set, Medvedev fought back from a two-break deficit, but immediately lost serve again. The second service opportunity was also difficult for Zverev, coming from 30-0 to two break points, however, the German won the first set – 7-5 in excellent games.

• In the second set, Zverev took away Medvedev’s serve with the fifth break point and this time he managed without nervousness on his own serve, adding another break point to the set – 6:3.

• In the third set, Zverev played back three break points and two mini-breaks, but Medvedev managed to extend the game – 7:6(4).

• In the eighth game of the fourth set, Medvedev did not use two break points and made a potentially fatal double fault in the tiebreak at 4:4, but immediately responded with two minibreaks and a run – 7:6(5).

• The initiative had passed to Medvedev’s side, and Zverev paid dearly for gross mistakes at the net in the fifth game of the decisive set – Medvedev did not take advantage of 40:15, but realized the third break point, eventually winning with another break 6:3

• Medvedev took the lead for the first time with a break in the fifth set, but Zverev did not have a single break point since the second set.

• Medvedev reached the Melbourne final for the third time in four years – in 2021 he lost to Novak Djokovic in three sets, and in 2022 he lost a two-set lead against Rafael Nadal.

• Zverev has lost six out of seven Grand Slam semifinals, winning the only time in the 2020 US Open semifinals when he overcame a two-set deficit against Pablo Carreno. In the final, however, he lost 2-0 against Dominik Thiema.
