XXXI Italian Country Shooting Championships: Castel di Sangro Hosts Prestigious Event

A Castel di Sangro are taking place for the first time in the Alto Sangro i area Italian Country Shooting Championships from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd July. An impeccable organization thanks mainly to the great work done by the deputy mayor Franco Castellano and his “team” who, in a week, prepared the routes in the surrounding hills to perfection.

The competition will take place on three competition fields located on the hill bordering the Sangro river and behind the Franciscan convent of Madeleinewhere the “Aufidente Civic Museum“, a place where the archery enters a cultural and historical context.

A magical and wonderful location, where it will be possible to visit collections of fossils and testimonies from the Italic period with personal ornaments (bracelets, necklaces, rings), but also 16th century ceramics from the Abruzzo-Molisan school: a leap into history in the land of Abruzzo , here where the findings of lithic industries, along the Sangro river, date the human presence of the territory back to 4000 BC

The event is organized byASD Arcieri the Dolphin in collaboration with the Fitarco Abruzzo Regional Committee with the patronage of Municipality of Castel di Sangro and will assign i Italian titles of the four competing divisions: Olympic Bow, Compound, Bare Bow and Longbow.

In the Italian competition there are the best Italian archers who will be competing in the European specialty championships in Piedmont in September. The technical director of the national team will be present on the fields to manage the race routes Giorgio Botto.

It should be emphasized that theItaliain the Field discipline (field shooting) is one of the best nations in the world as evidenced by the results obtained at the recent World Championships, European Championships and last year’s World Games in United States.

THE PROGRAM – The Italian Country Championships kick off after the Opening Ceremony on Thursday 20 July Friday 21 July with the Italian Class Championship Elders, Junior from Master of the Arco Nudo, Arco Olimpico and Arco Compound divisions, followed by the Mixed Teams (semi-finals and finals) of Arco Nudo, Olimpico and Compound.

The awards ceremony and assignment of the Italian Individual and Mixed Team Class Titles concludes the first day. Saturday 22 July the Italian Junior and Junior Class Championship for the Barebow, Olympic, Compound and Longbow divisions, followed by the award ceremony of the Italian Individual Class Titles.

Also on the same day, the Italian Absolute Championship for the Naked Bow, Olympic Bow, Compound Bow and Longbow divisions (until the semi-finals). The semi-finals for the Individual, Team and Mixed Team Longbow divisions will end the day.

The day of Sunday 23 July, the final one, presents the individual finals on 4 floors with male and female athletes (AN-OL-CO-LB division) followed by the Team finals again on 4 floors, male and female, for the assignment of the Absolute Italian Titles. The Closing Ceremony will close the 3 days of these XXXI Italian Country Championships.

DEFINING CHAMPIONS – These are the defending champions, for each division, of the past Italian Championships 2022 campaign which took place in Castellarano: for the women’s longbow Cecilia Santacroce won the Italian title while for the men’s Marco Pontremolesi; for the Arco Nudo division the title went to the national and Fiamme Oro champion Cinzia Noziglia, while for the men Eric Esposito with his fourth overall title after those of 2017, 2018, 2021; in the Olympic Arc the Overall title went to Lucia Mosna and Massimiliano Mandia who won his fifth career tricolor after those in 2013, 2014, 2018 and 2021; It was Elisa Baldo who wrote her name for the first time in the honor roll of the event in the women’s compound, while for the men’s compound the defending champion is Marco Bruno. In the team finals, the athletes of the Tigullio Archers won the tricolor (Sara Noceti, Anna Rocca, Cinzia Noziglia) while in the Piave Archers (Andrea Fagherazzi, Lino Marcon, Andrea Monego) the winners.
