with a goal from Thuram, Inter beats Lazio and takes off

Thanks to their 2-0 victory over Lazio, Inter Milan are more than ever at the top of the Italian championship standings.

Inter Milan increased their lead at the top of the Italian Championship to four points thanks to their victory at Lazio Rome (2-0) on Sunday during the 16th day. Inter opened the scoring thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s 15th league goal this season: the Argentine world champion took advantage of a poor dismissal from the Roman defense to dribble past Ivan Provedel and open the scoring just before the break (40th) . Marcus Thuram added a second goal in the 66th minute following a counterattack from Nicolo Barella. Since arriving in Serie A last summer from Mönchengladbach, the French international has scored seven goals.

Inter now has 41 points and has doubled its lead at the top of the standings over Juventus Turin (37 pts) who had to settle for a draw (1-1) at Genoa on Friday. Simone Inzaghi’s side have notched up a third consecutive victory and have won 13 of their 16 Serie A matches this season, including eleven without conceding a goal.

Impassable Sommer

Lazio, however, spared no effort and even manhandled the leader, but they came up against Yann Sommer, like Nicolo Rovella in the 48th minute, or missed the last gesture, like Daichi Kamada (55th). The Roman club finished the match with ten men after the exclusion of Manuel Lazzari in the 87th minute. Lazio, qualified like Inter in the round of 16 of the Champions League, is 11th (21 pts).

On Wednesday, Inter faces Bologna, 4th in the championship after their victory against AS Roma (2-0) on Sunday, in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup, a competition in which Inter are the double title holders.
