Oklahoma City Thunder’s Mark Daigneault has been named NBA Coach of the Year. The head coach led the Thunder into the play-offs for the first time since 2020 and in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 57 wins and 25 defeats. The US professional league announced the award for the 39-year-old on Sunday (local time).
“Our team’s success this season is a testament to the exceptional commitment and competitiveness of our players,” said Daigneault: “They are an exceptional group and it is a privilege to coach them.” In the round of 16 series against the New Orleans Pelicans, Oklahoma leads 3-0.
The NBA Coach of the Year has been chosen by a panel of sportswriters since 1963. Record winners are Don Nelson, Pat Riley and Gregg Popovich with three awards each.
