Former president of the FIA, Jean Todt contested, in an interview given to L’Équipe (published on December 13), the statements of his successor, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who claimed to have found accounts very largely in the red at the time of His arrival. The statements of the Frenchman, in office from 2009 to 2021, in turn provoked a reaction from the FIA which transmitted, via a spokesperson, the following details:
“As the FIA President highlighted during the Annual General Assembly held in Baku, the FIA has been transparent about the revelations that shortly after the new management team took office , the financial statement discovered was neither satisfactory nor sustainable. The Federation suffered significant losses.
As certified by audits, operational losses amounted to €12.8 million in 2019, €22.1 million in 2020 and €24 million in 2021.
The FIA has reduced its operational losses to €7.7 million in 2022. For 2023, forecasts show a loss of €3 million, which must be further reduced in 2024 with the aim of presenting an operating result at balance in 2025.
The management’s mission is to support the FIA which, if it is a non-profit organization, needs to present balanced and, ideally, profitable accounts in order to strengthen our own funds in the event of unforeseen events but also to invest in research and development for safety, technology and sports and mobility regulations, without forgetting the primary goal of supporting its members.
We will publish the results for 2021-2022 in the coming weeks and those for 2023 in mid-June 2024 during the Extraordinary General Meeting. »
