What a year for Colombian baseball in the Major Leagues! National talent, especially Bolivarian talent, continues to be shown in Bésbol Supremo.

The year that ended will go down in history as the year with the greatest number of Colombian players in the Major Leagues. A total of 13 players from the yard showed their hierarchy in the so-called ‘king of ‘sports’ in the United States.

Colombia continues to be, in recent years, the Latin American country with the greatest quantitative and qualitative development in Organized Baseball. Player signings are increasing, the hiring of coaches as talent scouts and the presence of coaches in major league teams demonstrate the quality of our team.

The Latin powers (Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela), where baseball is a national sport, unlike Colombia, where the king is not even regional, remain at the forefront.

Colombia has a present in the Major Leagues, the future is bright, the new generations of baseball players have a mirror to look at themselves, the economic and socio-cultural impact of baseball is felt in the national territory.

Undoubtedly the most outstanding player was Harold Ramírez from Cartagena, who hit .313 with an average and was fundamental in the line-up of the Tampa Bay Rya, who were very close to reaching the final of the American League.

He was followed by Barranquilla’s Dónovan Solano, who remained in the Minnesota Twins’ lineup and batted .282.

Jordan Díaz from Cordoba (played in the infield with Oakland Athletics). The Monteriano averaged .221 offensively (272-60), 9 doubles, 0 triples, 10 home runs, 20 runs scored, 27 runs batted in, 17 walks and 67 strikeouts in 90 games.

Oscar Mercado (outfielder with the San Luis Cardinals). The Cartagena native averaged .290 offensively (31-9), 3 doubles, 3 runs scored, 5 runs batted in, 1 walk received and 4 strikeouts in 20 games.

Jeter Downs (played infield with Washington Nationals). The San Andres native, recently claimed by the New York Yankees, averaged .400 (5-2) offensively, 0 extra-base hits, 4 runs scored, 1 RBI, 4 walks and 1 strikeout in 6 games.

José Quintana (New York Mets starting pitcher). The archer had a balance of 3 wins and 6 losses and an effectiveness of 3.57. He pitched 75.2 innings, 33 runs allowed (30 earned), 75 hits (5 home runs), 24 walks and 60 strikeouts in 13 games.

Julio Teherán (Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher). The Cartagena player had a balance of 3 wins and 5 losses; effectiveness 4.40. He pitched 71.2 innings, 36 runs allowed (35 earned), 68 hits (13 home runs), 13 walks and 50 strikeouts in 14 games.
