Alba Berlin Qualifies for Cup Semi-Final, Bamberg Baskets and Ulm Also Secure Spots

Alba Berlin has qualified for a cup semi-final in the Basketball Bundesliga for the twelfth time in a row. The Bamberg Baskets and Ulm are also there.

On Saturday (December 9th, 2023), the eleven-time German Cup winner Berlin won its quarterfinal game at the Syntainics MBC from Weißenfels with 85:70 (45:36). The Berliners also managed to take revenge for the 75:108 home defeat against MBC three weeks ago in league play, the worst home defeat in the club’s history. Basketball world champion Johannes Thiemann led Berlin with 17 points.

Bamberg narrowly wins in Vechta

Thanks to Zach Copeland, the Bamberg Baskets prevailed at Rasta Vechta with 88:87 (42:39). Copeland hit the winning three-pointer twelve seconds before the end of the game and was the game’s top scorer with 33 points. Vechta overcame a 21-point deficit in just under seven minutes in the fourth quarter, but still missed out on victory.

Ulm stops Chemnitz series

The Niners Chemnitz’s high flight has stopped: The leaders of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) suffered their first defeat after 17 competitive game wins in a row with a 78:87 (39:39) against the German champions ratiopharm Ulm and were eliminated. Chemnitz, which is at the top of the BBL with a record of 9-1 wins, last left the field as a loser on September 27th – even then it was against Ulm. LJ Figueroa scored the most points for the visiting team in the game in Saxony with 19 points, while Kevin Yebo impressed on the other side with 23 points.

The Final Four in the Cup will take place on February 17th and 18th. In the last quarter-finals, the Telekom Baskets Bonn and the basketball players from FC Bayern Munich will face each other as defending cup champions on Sunday.
