Osiris Machado and Team Mexico Shine at Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games

Mexico City. The Mexican team Osiris Machado met expectations by winning the gold medal and world record in the discus throw event at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

The native of Nayarit completed a distance of 41.16 meters to climb to the top of the podium.

At 19 years of age, Machado has become a figure in the specialty at a continental level with achievements such as the title in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix of Veracruz and that of Italy.

Due to a reckless driver, the selected woman lost her younger brother and suffered a disability in her right leg that prevents her from bending it. Her growth was no longer normal and her muscles did not develop properly. Despite everything, Osiris continued forward and turned her tragedy into a driving force to demonstrate that nothing is impossible.

In addition to Osiris, Daniela Velasco was also crowned in the 400 meters T12, achieving her second medal in Santiago.

In the javelin throw, Luis Alberto Gomeztagle achieved silver in the F57 category, as did Nayely Lozano in the F46 specialty. Gloria Zarza was also second in bullet momentum F3/54/55 with a throw of 8.16 meters; In that same event, her compatriot Rosa María Guerrero won bronze.

Added to the athletics harvest were the bronzes of Anahí Vázquez in the 100 meters T53, Fernando Sánchez in the 1500 T54, Priscila Chávez in the 400 meters T13 and Jennifer Villalobos in the javelin F46.

On the last day of boccia activities, Mexico obtained a bronze in mixed doubles BC4 with Karla Manuel and Edgar Mora. In badminton Maximiliano Ávila achieved silver in the individual SL4 modality.
