Metropolitan Zone II Dominates X National Sports School Games in Barahona

BARAHONA. The Metropolitan Zone II reached the top of the general medal table of the X National Sports School Games held in this city organized by the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi).

After dominating the badminton competitions, where it won six gold, three silver and four bronze medals, the Metropolitan II region relegated Cibao Norte to second place, which has 25 medals, including six gold, 11 silver and eight bronze.

Third place is occupied by Metropolitana I, with six gold, the same number of silver and 12 bronze (24), while fourth place is in the hands of Northeast, which has six first place metals, six silver and seven bronze , for 19 medals.

Cibao Sur, with five gold medals, six silver and 14 bronze, for a total of 25 metals, is in the fifth place.

Higuamo is sixth, with four first-place medals, two second and eight third, for 14 medals, and El Valle is in seventh place with one gold, three silver and seven bronze (11), and the Southwest It is eighth with one gold, three silver metals and six bronze metals (10). The Northwest has not yet entered the medal table.

Metropolitan Zone captures JEDN women’s basketball gold

BARAHOUR. The Metropolitan Zone I (San Cristóbal) won the gold medal by defeating the Metropolitana II quintet (Monte Plata) 58-45 in the final of the women’s basketball tournament of the X National Sports School Games held here.

The game changed with 5:31 left in the third quarter. Yarelis Lucas converted a driving basket that tied the game at 30-30, and converted an additional shot after receiving a foul to put Metropolitana I up 31-30.

In the last minutes of that quarter, those from San Cristóbal signed a 13-2 run to seal the match and claim first place in the tournament.

Loanna Tolentino, who was awarded Most Valuable Player, led Metropolitana I with 31 points and 34 rebounds (school record), followed by Lucas, who scored 19 points.

For Metropolitana II, Anny De Jesús was the best on the floor, with 15 points and 30 rebounds, and Mariely de la Cruz finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The award ceremony was led by Alberto Rodríguez, executive director of Inefi, together with sports authorities from Barahona.

Cibao Sur, third place

The Cibao Sur quintet won the bronze medal by convincingly defeating the Cibao Norte representation 55-35.

The match was decided in the same first period when Cibao Sur perfectly executed a full-court defense that allowed them to make a 15-2 run to win the set 17-4.

The Cibao Sur champions also dominated the second set 10-9, as well as the third with a score of 12-9. The last one was 16-16.

Roselyn Mesa was the standout for Cibao Sur by scoring 14 points with 20 rebounds, while Albarelys Rondón contributed 17 points and caught eight balls.

It was a great final of a tournament with a high technical level as part of the multi-sport event organized by the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI), under the management of Alberto Rodríguez Mella and the government of President Luis Abinader.

After finishing the regular game (40 minutes) without scores, Héctor Dominis Díaz opened the scoring in the fourth minute of overtime, repeated in the sixth and finished off Ángel David Ortiz with half a minute left (in the 9th), to ruin the praiseworthy work. of the capital’s goalkeeper Bryan Lama, who made extraordinary saves.

The best scorers in the Southwest zone were Estervina Conce with six goals and Mariolis Heredia and Adris Novas scored five goals each.

Geidy Flores stood out for the losers with nine goals and Scarlet Duran scored four.

Nordeste wins gold in men’s volleyball School Games

BAHORUCO. The Northeast sextet swept its counterpart from Cibao Norte 2 sets to 0 at the closing of the men’s volleyball tournament held in this city as part of the X National Sports School Games.

Melvin de Jesús, with 18 points, and Ramón de Jesús, with 11, led the attack of the Northeast zone, which won the sets 25-20, 25-16.
