German Football Fans Sing John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” at NFL International Series Games

Football fans in Germany have started their own tradition during the NFL’s International Series games there.

Fans in Frankfurt broke out into song as the Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) took on the Miami Dolphins (6-3) in the league’s second ever game in Germany and first of two this season. Their choice of song was rather unique, especially from tens of thousands of fans outside of the United States: John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

It’s not the first time German football fans have shown their affinity for the song. At last year’s inaugural International Series game in Germany – between the Buccaneers and Seahawks at Allianz Arena in Munich – fans also joined together in singing Denver’s tribute to West Virginia.
