Argentina’s Strong Showing at Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games

Yesterday, the Argentine delegation added two gold medals in swimming and one in cycling, after a new day of competition at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games in which other podiums were also held in these two sports and in judo.

In swimming, Santiago Senestro from Buenos Aires became champion in the 200 meter medley (SM10 class), with a time of 2m22s25/100.

The representative of River Plate was 1s40/100 ahead of the silver medalist, the Brazilian Ruan Lima. Meanwhile, Brazilian Phelipe Melo also won bronze by reaching 1.59/100.

Senestro had achieved a bronze medal in the 100 meter breaststroke on Saturday afternoon.

The other Parapan American swimming title came from Iñaki Basiloff from Neuquén.

The athlete from the Núñez entity also won the final of the 400 meter freestyle (S7), with a time of 4m40s89/100, which became a continental record in this type of competition.

The second position belonged to the American Adin Williams, who reached 22s59/100, while Facundo Arregui from Rosario won the bronze medal, finishing at 23s52/100.

For its part, the pair composed of Maximiliano Gómez from Entre Ríos and Sebastián Tolosa from Buenos Aires won the gold medal in the cycling time trial modality (division B).

Gómez, born in Gualeguay, and Tolosa, a native of Saladillo, achieved a time of 28m27s53/100, which surpassed the Colombian couple made up of Nelson Serna-Marvin Angarita Reyes by 18s83/100. Third place went to the Chilean duo made up of Matías Mansilla-Marcelo Mansilla Cerda.

In the female branch, the María José Quiroga-Micaela Barroso duo won the silver medal in the time trial (B) in 34m16s25/100, while the Agustina Cruceño-Mayra Tocha tandem won the bronze with 34m55s88/100.

In judo, there were also four other medals: silver for Rocío Ledesma (-48 kg J1/J2) and Eduardo Gauto (-73 kg J1/J2) and bronzes for Laura González (-57 kg J1/J2) and Paula Gómez ( -57kg J1/J2).

The Argentine delegation provisionally occupies third place in the medal table, with nine gold, eight silver and 12 bronze medals.
