Zetor in Brno ends! After 77 long years

The world-renowned tractor manufacturer Zetor, considered a Czech industrial legend, is shutting down production in Brno. During 77 years, over 1.5 million tractors were produced here. The company sold the land with the halls for hundreds of millions to the development company CTP and is now only renting it. With this, she solved her huge bank debts. The production of Zetor is moving more and more to India. The market there is supposed to save the brand from extinction.

“We are talking about a shutdown of operations in November and December. But how long the factory will stand is a question,” said Aha! union boss Alois Kazelle. The trade unionists do not have accurate information about their future or the factory’s prospects. Even the management of the company is silent when asked by Aha! the owners from the Slovak investment company HTC Investments did not respond by the deadline.

“In Brno, assembly and additional production should probably remain in one hall, which is leased for 25 years,” trade unionist Alois Kazelle clings to the last possible hope. The new owner of the land is to send the factory to the ground and instead will build halls for the city’s business park. “Demolition will begin in 2025. Halls Z-10, forge Z-16 and then hall Z-9 will go to the ground,” said CTP spokeswoman Pavlína Křivancová, adding that the area will have about 160,000 m² and offer up to 3,000 jobs places.
