Jan-Lennard Struff is also in excellent form in Madrid

Jan-Lennard Struff has continued his remarkable run on the ATP Tour, reaching the round of 16 at the clay court Masters in Madrid. The 34-year-old from Warstein won against Frenchman Ugo Humbert 7:5, 6:4, his sixth match in a row without losing a set. Last week Struff won his first title in Munich.

In Madrid he seamlessly builds on the greatest success of his career to date with self-confidence. He feels comfortable in the “Caja Magica” anyway; last year Struff surprisingly reached the final of the top event and only lost to Spain’s exceptional player Carlos Alcaraz. Now there could be revenge if Alcaraz wins against Thiago Seyboth Wild (Brazil).

Not a single break chance allowed

In this form, Struff doesn’t have to be afraid of the Wimbledon winner either. Against Humbert, number 14 in the tennis world rankings, he picked up the pace in the crucial moments. A late break in the first and an early break in the second set decided the game. Struff didn’t even allow a break ball on his own serve.

Struff’s Davis Cup colleagues Alexander Zverev and Daniel Altmaier will also be in action on Sunday. Zverev will play against Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the evening, Altmaier will face Polish top 10 player Hubert Hurkacz in the afternoon.

Here is the individual tableau in Madrid.
