The Genovés Basketball Club Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Wheelchair Basketball Game

The Genovés Basketball Club celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and, on the occasion of this, organizes different activities to commemorate it. The club, which has always had the desire to show different ways of playing basketball, will bring a wheelchair basketball game to the Paco Cabanes pavilion. CB Genovés, which has always had links with more social entities and associations that fight to improve the quality of life for people with more limited resources, wants to make visible that basketball goes beyond shooting baskets or dribbling the ball and affirms that The 30th anniversary “is reason enough” for this. Thus, the Genovés pavilion will witness a wheelchair basketball game for the first time.

This is not the first time that the club has proposed initiatives where wheelchairs are present on the track. Last January, Javi López gave a talk in which he made basketball clubs reflect on foot if we find a wheelchair on the court. More recently, Víctor Carnero taught a wheelchair basketball clinic for teachers and coaches.

Now, the time has come for the wheelchair basketball competition to take to the court in the Genovés pavilion. Under the umbrella of the CB Genovés anniversary, the UPV-In-Adiv de Valencia teams and the Wheelchair Basketball Club of Rodes Elx will play a game on Saturday November 11, at 8 p.m., in the Paco Cabanes pavilion. Two teams that this season They will play the state league and will close the preseason with a game at the Genovés.

Another initiative that shows CB Genovés’ way of understanding basketball. “Teach that there are other ways to play the same sport“That people with different abilities also share sports is one of the messages we want to give,” they say from the club, noting that “basketball is a reason to transmit values that lead girls and boys to transform society. The difference is a value that enriches and basketball gives us the opportunity to enhance this value,” the club points out.

Adiv is an organization whose main objective is the inclusion of all people through basketball, regardless of their physical or intellectual skills or abilities, and which since this season has been linked to the UPV’s inclusive project. “An entity with this vision of understanding sport and linked to a university already says a lot about what they intend to achieve in the world of basketball. The club is very excited about this meeting, which would not have been possible without the person of Víctor Carnero, wheelchair team coach and promoter of the association. We are convinced that with people like Víctor a better world awaits us in the future. We only have words of gratitude to him for accepting this proposal,” they say from CB Genovés.

A dizzying season begins for CB Genovés and that has a first stop next Saturday, November 11 at 8 p.m. A match different from those experienced so far at Genovés, hence the importance that the club wants to give it.
