Philadelphia Sixers Hold Public Scrimmage with Delaware Blue Coats, Fans Await James Harden’s Preseason Debut

To strengthen ties with the Delaware Blue Coats, their G-League franchise, the Philadelphia Sixers decided on Saturday to hold their “scrimmage” in public at Chase Fieldhouse, located in Wilmington, Delaware. The program includes training sessions, the presentation of new members and then the traditional match between Blues and Whites.

The question for everyone was whether James Harden would take part in the matchday program since he has not yet played in the preseason. The spectators present believed it since the All-Star guard was present at the beginning of the session (as seen in the video that closes the article, ed.), but then he disappeared! When asked about this absence, Nick Nurse did not respond frankly. “On Friday I told everyone that we would have a normal training session before the match between us. As you can see, I kept the veterans out of the scrimmage, and I’m fine with that.”

Nothing personal between Nurse and Harden: the latter on Friday spoke about it in these terms: “It’s going very well with Nick. He’s very flexible. He’s the players’ coach. He’s aware of it. I know him little, he was the “He’s the coach of Houston’s G-League team. He won a title. He sees the game differently and I’m a fan of his. This year there’s more space, more opportunities for everyone and we’re more unpredictable.” It’s still a way to protest against management, though.

The Beard considered playing his final preseason game against the Hawks on Oct. 20: “I’m still gaining momentum. I always try to put myself in the best conditions. I feel very, very good, but there is another level that I feel I can reach and will reach. I think there will be another pre-season game after Monday. So I will switch gears and try to play the last game to put myself in a match situation.”
