With the presentation of the work that will go as a prize to the winning district of the archery tournament which was held yesterday under the loggias of Piazza del Popolo, the 2023 Thrush Festival began. The ceremony was opened by Mayor Franceschelli who he spoke about the new stands, an investment for the future to give (like all the changes for the redevelopment of the festival) a further identity mark to the Montalcino events. The work was created by the Sienese painter Daniela Martelli. The artist created a painting featuring the Madonna, to whom the community of Montalcino is particularly devoted, surrounded by the flags of the four districts of Borghetto, Pianello, Ruga and Travaglio which fly around her as if to invoke her intercession for victory.
The presentation was accompanied by applause from the audience present. Meanwhile, today Montalcino is preparing to experience the eve of the festival. This morning, after the performance of the group ‘Il Trescone’, the drawing of the archers who will defend the Quartieri colors will be held in Piazza del Popolo. In the afternoon the historical procession will move from Piazza Cavour to go to the shooting range where the provaccia will be played: the District that wins it will have the right to choose both the shooting lane and the distance from which to shoot the last decisive arrows. In the evening, in their respective locations, the people will meet for dinner.
