Xavi Simons Shines in RB Leipzig’s Victory and Impresses as a Rising Talent

A goal, an assist and the BILD grade 1! Xavi Simons (20) was the man of the game in RB Leipzig’s 3-0 win at Union Berlin and could hardly be stopped by his opponents – as was often the case at the start of the season.

The Dutch national player (four appearances), who has the reputation of a child prodigy and whom RB sports director Max Eberl (49) has already described as an “exceptional talent”, proves within a very short time that these are not just empty words.

Strong: The loan professional from Paris Saint-Germain broke a Leipzig start record! No new signing from Saxony has scored five points (two goals, three assists) in their first three Bundesliga games.

But the offensive talent is far from being too important. Xavi says down to earth: “We have a great team and a great coach. You have to get to know each other better little by little and I’m sure we’ll have a very good season. We still have a long season with many games ahead of us. It was important that we won now and that we are going into the international break with a good feeling.”

Xavi has to play with the Netherlands in the European Championship qualifier against Greece (September 7) and Ireland (September 10). The super dribbler is one of 14 Leipzig pros who go on international trips.

Orban hot for Szoboszlai interrogation

Captain Willi Orban (30) has to play with Hungary in Serbia (September 7th). This is followed by a friendly against the Czech Republic (September 10). What pleases the central defender the most: seeing an ex-colleague again!

Dominik Szoboszlai (22) moved from Leipzig to Liverpool this summer for €70m. On Sunday against Aston Villa (3-0) he scored his first goal in the Premier League. Orban: “I want to listen to how he got on.”

Good for RB Leipzig: Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi (33) is also traveling to Hungary with Orban. After tearing his cruciate ligament, Leipzig’s number 1 was nominated for a national team course for the first time.

Orban: “It is incredibly important for him that he is there, that he finds his rhythm. It’s good for his soul and now he has to take the next steps in sport. Progression before perfection, I always say, and then we’ll see when it’s time for him to be able to play a game again.”
