The Médiévales de Grestain Return to the Old Abbey for a Second Year

For the second year, the Médiévales de Grestain return to the old abbey of Fatouville-Grestain located between Honfleur and Pont-Audemer on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September 2023, after last year’s success.

The event was launched by the tourist office Honfleur, land of estuary in collaboration with the owner of the place, Nicolas Wapler. “The site really lends itself to it. The setting is sublime on the ruins of the old abbey. It is a green setting, one of the assets of the territory quite incredible but still little known, explains Clémence Frémont, communications manager. The site has a strong place with Norman medieval history in the presence of Arlette and Odon, the mother and brother of William the Conqueror. »

Discover daily life

It is a real immersion that is proposed to go back in time with the presence of the two companies with the Compagnons pour Hasting and the Ordonnance de Saint-Michel to discover daily life: cooking, tapestry, calligraphy and illumination or even the manufacture of cash. But it is also an opportunity to discover the military aspect with the presentation of pieces of armor, weapons and professions. Visitors will be able to visit different camps and soak up the musical atmosphere with La Pastourel and Corazon.

Fights, demonstrations…

During the day, initiations to archery (Legendary Agency) or to the handling of weapons will be offered and it will also be possible to test the béhourd with La Baronnerie, the medieval combat sport. Also on the program, wooden games (Being and playing), construction, leather and builder’s workshop (Viva historia), stone carving demonstrations, armor combat, medieval fencing and behourd. A medieval craft market will also allow you to discover authentic products: L’échoppe d’Ambroise (artisanal soaps), Les Trois Moutons (artisanal sheep’s wool), Cœur de Ruche (honey harvested from the hives of the abbey of Grestain) and Mead of Kvasir (medieval drinks).
