Recanati Celebrates Official Naming Ceremony of Attilio Pierini and Mauro Cingolani Sports Facility

RECANATI – Although it has been in operation for some time and used by basketball and fencing, a series of technical and bureaucratic delays, and with the hand of Covid, had never allowed the official naming ceremony to come to life after the co-naming in memory of Attilio Pierini, architect of the successes of Basket Recanati up to the A2 series, a name that was added to that of Mauro Cingolani, one of the re-founders of city basketball at the time of Libertas.

In the presence of the highest city authorities and the President of Coni, Luna, today the ribbon was cut, first for the facility in general, then for the gym which, thanks to the expansion, has been possible to create under one of the grandstands, and destined for the club of fencing. Under the other grandstand a weight room and an additional dressing room.

The new palas will be able to accommodate up to 2,000 spectators.

Two plaques were discovered inside the palas, one commemorating the event and the other the commitment of the designer but also a basketball enthusiast at the time, Eng. Garofolo, who died prematurely and was unable to see the work materialised. A plaque was given to his memory to his widow, as well as to Giuseppe Pierini, Attilio’s father, was given a similar memory.

It was then Carpegna Pesaro and Benacquista Latina who christened the parquet in a friendly match that cheered the more than 1000 spectators present. Pesaro success 87-49.

In the interval, the official presentation of the Recanati Basketball roster that participates in the C Unica Marche/Umbria.

At the end of the friendly, two columns from Pesaro, Ario Costa and Walter Magnifico, were awarded.
