Kenny Pickett’s Development and the High Expectations for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Expectations with the Pittsburgh Steelers have grown this offseason, and much of it has to do with second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett’s physical, mental and technical development. The team that Mike Tomlin leads will depend a bit on how he performs his QB to position himself in a good way in one of the most difficult divisions in the entire NFL, but the confidence, internal and external, exists.

Pickett showed that if the offense can answer him (buy time, set up the running game), he won’t let them down. Far from being considered a success yet, the Steelers seem to have the ability to go far, although he is supporting this concept in the evolution of his young quarterback.

The conditions? More than given: the defense is elite, therefore the attack will be on the field almost always; the offensive line has improved in a way few in the league are noticing; the running game promises to be more stable than the campaign and, most importantly, the weapons are available: George Pickens is so good that he will free up spaces that can be attacked by the likes of Diontae Johnson and Pat Freiermuth.

Although he won 7 of the 13 games he played last season, the University of Pittsburgh graduate did not have the dream rookie season when it comes to looking at the numbers: 63% completions, 2,404 yards, 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. The leap that can be made is palpable.
