DFB striker Timo Werner is suddenly just a supporting figure at RB Leipzig

It’s not often that someone makes a quiet appearance in the Leipzig stadium, which is loud and pumped up by blaring music. In this respect, it was special how Timo Werner experienced the last minutes of RB Leipzig’s game against FC Augsburg. Coach Marco Rose sent him onto the field three minutes before the end of regular time. Sure, there was polite applause and the fans shouted his name when he came on, but for the rest of the encounter Werner became a minor character. It’s been like this since the start of the season.

The focus of Leipzig’s safe 3-0 win was once again different or the same ones. The famous Xavi Simons, a twenty-year-old curly-haired man, was applauded for scoring the 1-0 early on and shortly afterwards making it 2-0 through Lois Openda – his third goal and his fourth assist. Nobody has ever managed seven so-called scorer points in a Leipzig jersey after four league games.
