470 duo Vadlau/Mähr misses the World Cup medal

Lara Vadlau and Lukas Mähr just missed out on a medal at the World Championships in The Hague. The 470 duo failed to improve with sixth place in Thursday’s medal race, remaining fourth behind Japan (Keiju Okada/Miho Yoshioka), Spain and another Japanese team. Two points were missing on bronze.

There was reason to celebrate on Wednesday when Vadlau and Mähr secured a national ticket for Austria for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. “We are a bit ambivalent: on the one hand we are super happy because we got the Olympic quota place, on the other hand it obviously hurts when a World Championship medal is so close and you end up fourth,” said Vadlau.

Despite fourth place, there is also joy, “because there is still so much room for improvement – and we are still the fourth best team in the world”. In the coming months, the duo wants to train more in the Olympic area near Marseille, and Lanzarote is to become the training base again over the winter.
