Munich’s record purchase Lucas Hernández is leaving Bayern Munich and moving to Paris Saint-Germain. A successor is already ready.

France international Lucas Hernández leaves FC Bayern Munich and, as expected, joins Paris Saint-Germain. The 27-year-old defender has signed a five-year contract with the French soccer champions until 2028.

According to reports, the German record champions will receive around 50 million euros including bonuses. This would make the 27-year-old the most expensive departure in the history of the Munich club. “I’ve been waiting to come to PSG for a long time and now it’s finally here. It’s a very special day for me and I’m very happy to be here,” said Hernández in a statement from the French club.

Change request fulfilled

Hernández, who still had a contract on the Isar until the summer of 2024, had submitted his change request to the Munich management board weeks ago. “We would like to thank Lucas Hernández for four very successful years together. He always gave everything, his fighting spirit and his passion always impressed us,” said Bayern boss Jan-Christian Dreesen.

The player wrote on Instagram that he was going from Bayern to Paris with a “heavy heart”. “Finally, I ask you to respect my decision, even if goodbyes are always difficult.” Ex-Bayern professional Mehmet Scholl posted: “I don’t believe a word you say.”

Hernández switched from Atlético Madrid to Bayern in 2019 for 80 million euros. Also due to his injuries, the Munich record purchase could never fully live up to this price. Most recently, Hernández was out for months after tearing a cruciate ligament at the World Cup in Qatar.

Successor is almost ready

His Munich chapter ends prematurely after numerous titles. Hernández was German champion four times, winning the DFB Cup and the Champions League once each. When the Frenchman played, his quality was evident. With a view to the transfer fee, however, this was too rare.

A successor for the French is already ready. The South Korean Min-Jae Kim is to receive a five-year contract on the Isar until the summer of 2028. An official club announcement is still pending. The SSC Napoli centre-back reportedly has a release clause in his contract, which means at least €50m is due.
