Medvedev qualified for Wimbledon quarters after Lehecka abandonment

Having just given up the second set and found himself trailing 6-4, 6-2, Jiri Lehecka decided to retire against Daniil Medvedev due to a foot injury leaving the Russian on his way to his first quarter finals at Wimbledon in five appearances.

“I didn’t notice he was injured until he gave up,” said the world No. 3 on the court. I’m sorry for Jiri, I hope he recovers quickly. I haven’t had much success here, but I’ve never lost on Court 1, so I’m looking forward to playing my next match there. I’m not very into statistics, but I knew that Wimbledon was my worst Grand Slam in terms of results, but here I’m doing as well as at Roland-Garros (quarterback in 2021), while waiting for better. »

For a place in the semi-finals, the Russian will face the winner of the quarter-final between Chris Eubanks and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
