Journalist and commentator for Sky Sport as well as the next voice of the commentary of the Athens final on Tv8, Massimo Marianella spoke today on Radio FirenzeViola during the “Palla al Centro” broadcast, giving an in-depth look at what he believes will be the Conference League final against Olympiacos. Here are his words:

On the comparison with Atalanta: “Atalanta have had an excellent run, I recognize a lot of merit to the club and the coach but I don’t want comparisons with the Bergamo team, speaking of the Viola, in terms of attitude if Fiorentina plays like in the second half of Brugge returns home with the cup; Fiorentina have been a good team at times, I breathe an air of desire to grow, making a comparison with the NBA, if you lose a final it’s the first step to winning the next one. In Florence yesterday at the media day I saw different faces compared to those of last year, the players already know what they have to do and rediscovering sensations already experienced helps you. I experienced both the joy of Basel and Brugge and they were different, the latter helps you reported in the final, it was a step forward. Sometimes playing finals at home is worse, look at Roma against Liverpool in the European Cup, Portugal losing to Greece, Bayern losing to Chelsea Playing the match in home is one more opponent for Olympiacos

On the feelings ahead of the final: “I’m optimistic, I’m not superstitious, Fiorentina has a great chance of bringing home the cup, I want to see on the pitch what I saw yesterday at the media day at Viola Park, the attitude must be positive, that of the fans is also positive for the moment, otherwise there wouldn’t be the wonderful 9,500 fans who go to Athens. At the moment Fiorentina is playing in a European final, they must be proud to play it. Fiorentina gets there with merit, and he can enrich his palmeres, which is important, not to mention the fact that the Viola have played in all the UEFA finals. Going to play this final is a great thing, it’s not a cup.

On the match against Cagliari: “Ranieri also accomplished some extraordinary feats in Florence, I hope he coaches a national team, so tonight we watch the match and applaud Claudio, but I know that Italiano will prepare it as if it were an important match also for the fact that getting to the final with a European ranking achieved in the championship is fundamental. We also prepare for the final in Athens by playing well tonight, it’s no coincidence that I don’t see many spring players called up.”

On the possible lineup and Arthur: “I believe that if the Brazilian arrives as he is doing in the league in Athens he will start. In my mind, I also see Belotti doing well but he has to show how he is; Bonaventura if he is well I would put him behind the first striker and I would put more physicality in midfield with Beltran who could be an additional offensive option from the bench; between the two central defenders, I would play Quarta and Ranieri even if I believe the latter starts behind Milenkovic in the hierarchy.”
