LIVE: Canada – Australia 0:2 (1st half in progress). Women’s World Cup game / Article

A draw will guarantee Canada a place in the elimination round, but a win for the Australians will allow them not to depend on the result of the other final game of the group. The Irish women, who have already lost, can complicate the situation in the group if they manage to beat the Nigerian soccer players on their bye, who, like the Canadian national team, occupy the two highest places in group B with four points in two games. One less point is on Australia’s bill.

Ovation erupted in the stands in the 9th minute, when Hayley Raso deftly handled the ball in the penalty area after a cross and hit the goal in the far corner. There were sighs of disappointment from the Australian fans at the fixed back, which would have denied the goal, but after reviewing the video, the referee ruled that no foul had been committed.

A few minutes later, Raso almost doubled the lead, but Canadian goalkeeper Kailyn Sheridan was able to reach the ball with one hand as it flew into the bottom corner of the net.

With great power, the Australians organized a counterattack, which would have allowed the home team to double their lead in the 34th minute, if the referee had not canceled it after the goal had been scored. The ball stayed in front of the Canadian goal for a long time until Mary Fowler hit the ball into the net from a few meters away.

However, five minutes later the result became 2-0. After the corner kick, the Canadian goalkeeper did not get to the ball and Rousseau was more agile than her rivals at the goal line.

Australia’s hopes for victory before the last game in the group were boosted by the news that the team’s usual captain and attack leader Sam Kerr, who has not yet played in the final tournament due to injury, will be able to go on the field. However, Kerr was not included in the starting line-up.

CONTEXT:

The World Cup will last until August 20, with the participation of 32 national teams in the final tournament for the first time, which are divided into eight groups of four teams in the first stage. Until August 3, groups in New Zealand and Australia will play a round-robin tournament, after which the two best teams will enter the round of 16.

All decisive games of the final tournament can be seen live on LTV7 and LSM.lv.
