Ko Itakura’s Departure from Borussia Mönchengladbach: Is the Next Top Performer at Risk?

Jonas Hofmann, Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl have all left Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer. Is the departure of the next top performer threatened?

According to information from “Sky”, Ko Itakura’s departure is very likely. With Napoli and Tottenham Hotspur, two top clubs are interested in the Japanese.

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg classifies the change: “Itakura is open to a change. I hear that very clearly.” The 26-year-old only joined the Foals from Manchester City last summer.

Regular player at Borussia

Itakura promptly fought for his place in central defense and was in the top eleven in 24 Bundesliga games last season. The Japanese missed the remaining ten games due to injury and two suspensions.

His market value is currently 12 million euros. Manchester City signed Itakura in the summer of 2021 for 3.5 million euros from FC Groningen and shortly afterwards loaned the international to FC Schalke for a year.

Itakura still has a contract with Gladbach until 2026.
