Train traffic between Lokeren and Sint-Niklaas started again around 4 p.m. on Monday. Traffic in both directions was interrupted on Monday afternoon due to a collision with a person just before Belsele station.

The collision happened around 11:40 a.m. about 500 meters before Belsele station. For the victim, all help came too late. It would be an act of desperation. The train came from Poperinge and was on its way to Antwerp Central. Train traffic between Lokeren and Sint-Niklaas came to a complete standstill due to the collision.

Replacement buses were used and trains were diverted where possible. The accident happened on a very busy line. Due to the personal accident, about 150 passengers were blocked on the train for just over an hour. They were evacuated from the train and taken to Antwerp by bus. Train traffic was resumed at 4:03 p.m.
