The ‘National Sports Festival for the Deaf’ has been held every year since its first event in 2004 to encourage the development of sports and social participation for the deaf by expanding opportunities for sports participation by the deaf.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Sports Promotion Agency, and the Korea Sports Association for the Disabled, and hosted by the Korea Deaf Sports Federation, the event is jointly organized by the Busan Sports Association for the Disabled and the Busan Sports Federation for the Deaf.

About 450 athletes (212 players, 238 executives and officials) from 7 cities and provinces will participate in this event. Participating players are divided into athletes (badminton, bowling, track and field, table tennis) and club members (gateball, shunrun, weightlifting).

Lee Jong-hak, president of the Korea Deaf Sports Federation, said, “As the tournament is held under difficult circumstances, I hope that all players participating in the tournament will demonstrate their skills and finish the tournament well without injury.”

Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “I hope that the National Sports Festival for the Deaf will lead Busan more dynamically.”
