Tomas Šileika makes his debut in the MXGP class in Ķegum with a 21st place finish

Tomas Šileika finished the eighth stage of the World Motocross Championship in Ķegum with the 21st place, for whom this was his debut in the MXGP class. Due to an injury, the leading Latvian motocross pilot Pauls Jonass did not go on the track.

In the qualification, the representative of “Saldus Motokluba” showed the 20th best result, but in the meantime, the victory was won by the Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings, who beat the Spaniard Jorge Prado by half a second at the finish, while the third was another Spanish motorcyclist Ruven Fernandez.

In the first race, Šileika finished the first lap in 13th place, moved up a place in the next, but lost positions with each subsequent lap, reaching the finish in 21st position, one place behind the qualifying points. Dutch qualifier Jeffrey Herlings won the race, beating Spain’s Jorge Prado and Ruven Fernandez.

Herlings continued to dominate in the second race as well, 2015 world MXGP champion Romain Fevres finished second, but Prado remained third this time. Šileika finished 14th in this race and earned seven points.

The two-time MXGP world champion Geoffrey Herlings won the sum of two races, for whom this was already the sixth victory in Ķegum as part of the world championship, Jorge Prado climbed to the second step of the podium, and the best rider in the TOP3 was Romain Fevres. 21st place for Tomas Šilek in the sum of two races.

After eight rounds, Prado (393 p) is still the leader in the overall standings of the competition, Herlings is in second position (378 p), and Fevres is in the third column of the table with 306 points. Paul Jonas slipped to 19th position (56 p), while Šilejka, who has completed only one stage in the MXGP class, is in 34th place.

The next stage of the MXGP World Championship will take place next week, on June 10 and 11, in Germany, where the European Championship stage in the EMX250 and EMX125 classes will also be held at the same time.
