It is a great personal achievement for Nacho. The defender, who has spent his entire career at Real Madrid, was the fourth captain the previous season. Benzema, who recently left the club for Saudi Arabia, was then the captain.
The Spanish international, who has 24 caps to his name, has played 213 games for Real Madrid so far. He has won the Champions League five times and has been crowned Spanish champion three times.
Whether at Real Madrid or in the Belgian national team, Thibaut Courtois will therefore not be captain.
