Ecuador, vice-champion of the Pan American Judo Open in Chile

After the achievement of three gold medals, one silver, three bronze and four fifth places, the Ecuadorian judo team finished second in the Open Panamericano Senior, played until Sunday June 4 in Santiago de Chile.

La Tri was second only to Brazil, which took 7 golds, four silvers and four bronzes. Third were the homeowners.

Among the most prominent Ecuadorians was Juan Pablo Ayala, in the -60 kg category, who defeated Brazilian Da Silva in the final. The second gold medal came through Celinda Corozo, in the -70 kg after beating Brenda Olaya, from Colombia, by ippon, while Vanessa Chalá, in the +78 kgwon the third gold by beating the Brazilian Rosa Eduarda in the final.

As a silver medalist, the man from Guayaquil stood out Freddy Figueroa, in the +100 category kg, Already among the bronze medalists were Lenin Preciado, in 66 kilos; Astrid Gavidia (-57 kilos) and Aracely Barrionuevo (-52 kg).

After participating in the Pan American Open, the Ecuadorian team stayed in Santiago fulfilling a training base that will culminate this Wednesday the 7th. The next day they will take a flight that will take them to Córdova, Argentina, where the other Open, between June 10 and 11. There they will participate 140 athletes from Brazil. Ecuador, Chile, Canada. Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, the United States, El Salvador, Paraguay and Haiti.
