Defender Piero Hincapie misses the start of the season for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen after breaking his metatarsal. The Ecuadorian will be out “about ten to twelve weeks,” said the factory club after the operation on Thursday. The operation in Cologne was successful.

The 21-year-old suffered the injury on June 17 in the international match against Bolivia (1-0) and left the pitch in tears. In the first two games of the new Bundesliga season, Hincapie is still suspended anyway because of his red card on the penultimate matchday against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-2).
