Roland-Garros 2023: Fiona Ferro out of qualifying and into the main draw

The French Fiona Ferro managed to get out of qualifying and will therefore play the main draw of Roland-Garros, after overcoming, on Friday, the Australian Jaimee Fourlis in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-4 ).

Former world No. 39, Ferro, 26, is down to 462nd in the WTA and has not passed a round at a Grand Slam tournament since 2021. She will have another chance thanks to her victory at the end of 2h22 fight against the 23-year-old Australian, world N.150.

Ferro had obtained a first match point on his opponent’s service, at 5-3 in the third set, at the cost of a long exchange, but had cracked in stride. She finally converted her second chance, this time serving.

This victory tasted like a “renaissance“, for her. “It’s great fun, I’ve been through a lot of emotions in recent months, not necessarily positive.she blew in the mixed zone. If someone had told me that I would qualify for the main draw at Roland today, I would have signed up right away..”

“There are many people I know. There is my family, my coaches, former or current, my friends. There is no better place to share emotions, that’s why we love this place“, she rejoiced. With Lucas Pouille, who won his place in the final table on Thursday, Fiona Ferro is the only tricolor to come out of qualifying.
