NFL kicker Brandon McManus released by Denver Broncos

The last member of the Denver Broncos Superbowl 50 champion team is no longer a member of the organization. Kicker Brandon McManus was released by the team on Tuesday after nine seasons in the Colorado capital.

It was McManus himself who made the announcement on social networks, adding that “something else will follow in the coming days”. The Broncos confirmed the news moments later.

In career, McManus has a success rate of 81.4% on placements and 96.9% on conversions. His performance was down last season, with 77.8% and 92.6% respectively.

Skipped in the 2013 draft, McManus began his NFL career on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. After a brief stint with the New York Giants during the 2014 preseason schedule, the Broncos acquired him to make up for the loss of Matt Prater, who was suspended for four games.

His performance led to the departure of Prater a few weeks later, but he in turn was pushed aside to make way for Connor Barth. The two kickers then competed for the position for the 2015 season and it was McManus who had the upper hand.

On September 13, 2015, he became the third kicker in history to field three or more 56 yards in a game. A few months later, the 31-year-old kicker won the Vince-Lombardi Trophy.
