Alejandro Tabilo’s Historic Run at Rome Masters 1000 ends in Semifinals against Alexander Zverev

The Chilean Alejandro Tabilo fell against the German Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the Rome Masters 1000 6-1, 7-6, 6-2, which marked the first time for the trans-Andean tennis player among the best four in a tournament higher than ATP 250.

Tabilo, 26 years old and 32 in the world, was the great revelation of the week, a fairy tale that he lived since last Sunday, when he beat none other than Novak Djokovic, in the third round of the contest. He then did the same against the Russian Karen Khachanov and the chinese Zhang Zhizhento reach the semi-final stage that was historic for Chilean tennis.

Unfortunately, Tabilo could not overcome the German’s hierarchy and experience, despite the fact that at the start of the match he took advantage of a completely unfocused Zverev, and devastated his rival, beating him by an eloquent 6-1. The German became desperate in the second set, which he ended up taking in the tie-break.

In the third and final chapter, the German, 5th in the world and Roland Garros contender, gave the Chilean no respite and won with two breaks that gave him the great advantage he needed to win the match.

Tabilo says goodbye to a tournament that gave him the best victories of his career, in which he was able to show that he has enough tennis to aspire to fight higher in the ranking.

In the other key of the competition is his compatriot Nicholas Jarrywho will later face Tommy Paulwith the aim of getting into the final of the tournament.
