The Pablo Cáceres Sports Center brought together 150 athletes with the Master Sub15 and Sub19 badminton

The voice.- Last weekend, the Pablo Cáceres Sports Center in Medina del Campo became the epicenter of national badminton with the celebration of the Sub15 and Sub19 Masters. A sports meeting that has brought together more than 150 athletes were the protagonists of a competition in which the favorites met the forecasts and climbed to the podium.

This tournament was organized by the Badminton Federation of Castilla y León, hand in hand with the Spanish Badminton Federation and with the support of the Town Hall of Villa de las Ferias and CD Medinense. There were a total of 250 matches played by the participants; 220 held on Saturday and the 28 duels that decided the winners on Sunday.

As the National Federation has detailed, one of the great absences has been that of María Luisa Jiménez, who recently suffered a serious injury that will keep her off the slopes for a few months. The triple U15 national champion and international medalist in U17 events, she is one of the great promises of Spanish badminton, as she confirmed in the U15 European Championship held in Ibiza in 2022 and in other international competitions.

In the U19 events, one of the most outstanding youngsters was Mario Rodríguez from Granada, who won the gold medal in the men’s singles event and also in the men’s doubles event, together with Iván Torre. In the individual event, in which he started as the first seed, he was escorted on the podium by Pablo Martín from Medina, while in the doubles event the Granada couple won gold ahead of the duo formed by the Asturian Jesús From Burgos and Guillermo Nuviala from Huelva.

In the female category, the great winner was Ana Nóvoa, winner of the individual event; she beating Mariela Vázquez from Extremadura. The doubles title went straight to Andalusia, as it was conquered by the duo of Ángela Jiménez and Rocío Martín, who beat Celia De Lara and Lucia Vašatová. In the U19 mixed doubles, Ana Nóvoa achieved the first position accompanied by the Galician Alejandro Barcala. In addition, they were accompanied by the Andalusians Martín Mosquera and Ángela Jiménez.

For their part, in the U15 competition, the seeded teams in the individual events did not fail. Thus, Hugo Sanz prevailed in the men’s event while the women’s went to Sara del Castillo. The doubles titles went to the couples made up of Adrián Lazo and Pedro Torre and Blanca Cantón and Patricia Peña, while the mixed doubles Félix Sanz and Sara Llopis won first place.
