Samsonov held on, but the Queen City outfit still found a way to give Jett Alexander his moment of glory.
Late in the third period, the Maple Leafs were up 7-1 and the timing was right to send Alexander into the fray.
Alexander had signed a one-night contract with the Maple Leafs to act as a reserve against CH. The 23-year-old Ontarian is playing this season with the University of Toronto, where he posted a 12-7-2 record, a 2.21 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.
