Roberto Cendron, the face of amateur basketball, dies at the age of 48

TREVISO – Roberto Cendron passed away yesterday at the age of 48. The tragic news arrived yesterday from the Casa dei Gelsi in Treviso where he had been a guest for a couple of weeks: last summer he had been diagnosed with one terrible disease, a brain tumor, against which he fought strenuously without ever losing faith and, above all, the smile and his good humor, which have distinguished him throughout his life.

THE COMMITMENT

Since he was a child Roberto, simply Roby to his friends, lived in the Christian faith and nurtured it in parish life at the Votive Church, together with his sister Francesca, his father Giorgio and his mother Bruna. «He actively participated in the activities of the oratory, coordinating the organization of various editions of the festival and collaborating in the management of the theater-many, many friends remember him-. A great sports enthusiast, he had started with football in the Aurora nursery but then fell in love with basketball, first played on the pitches, then entering the youth sector of Pallacanestro Casier and then treading the parquet floors of the Treviso minors for twenty years with the jersey of the Vasconiani, of which he was still a pillar».
THE PASSIONS

Precisely in the Vasconiani, an amateur basketball team, he had found a second family and his companions in him a friend, almost a brother, to whom to turn at any time. Many of them in recent months, as well as in the most difficult last few weeks, have been close to him going to see him despite his conditions, after the operation he underwent last winter, were slowly falling. «Roby in this period was as he always was: radiant, always positive, not at all willing to give up an inch». The impetus for his life made everyone fall in love, first of all Paola, his adored partner with whom he lived in Montebelluna and with whom he had made the most important “basket” of his life, his 6-year-old son Lorenzo. Roberto Cendron’s funeral has not yet been scheduled.
