After James Harden, the target who could support Wembanyama next year!

This season, several teams have tanked to be placed as high as possible in the lottery and increase their chances to recover Victor Wembanyama. Among them, the Rockets finished with the second-worst record in the league and seem to have hinged their entire strategy around Wemby. Recently, a new name came out to support the Frenchie in Texas…

When you think of Houston, few recent memories of victories come to mind. Since the departure of James Harden, the Texas franchise ends up mostly in the bottom of the rankings and hopes to get a generational crack in the draft. So far, Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr. are disappointing, and the Texans’ next target is none other than Victor Wembanyama.

Throughout the season, the Rockets have oriented their plans around the future No. 1 of the 2023 Draft. If we have already started to think about an association between James Harden and Wemby, or even the arrival of a lieutenant of renown such as Jaylen Brown, Houston has also met ambitious coaches. Ime Udoka or Frank Vogel are on the shortlist, but the latest update concerns the potential arrival of a player…

Would a Grizzly pack up in Texas?

In a recent report by The Athletic, journalist Kelly Iko, who follows the franchise on a daily basis, discussed all the most relevant and intelligent targets for the summer. While the Rockets look like they’re going to win pretty quickly, many agree they need a winger. To that extent, Dillon Brooks looks like the ideal choice:

Dillon Brooks is a good choice. He’s not as fluid offensively as, say, Cam Johnson, but he brings something that Cam wouldn’t bring defensively. He’s one of the best defensive wingers in the league, especially among free agents. He has a spirit that would go well with Houston.

Ironically, Dillon Brooks was drafted by the Rockets in 2017 before being quickly sent to Memphis. The Grizz’ would therefore occupy a position 3 which is lacking in the workforce, since only Kenyon Martin Jr. can occupy this role. The experience, defense and hardness of Brooks could thus do good to the youth of the Texan group, which is sorely lacking in these three ingredients.

To date, Victor Wembanyama has a 14% chance of joining the franchise that saw the glory days of Hakeem Olajuwon. The native of Chesnay could therefore, from his first season in the NBA, team up with James Harden and one of the biggest trash-talkers in the league. No doubt, however, that the association between the three men, combined with the emancipation of Jabari Smith Jr., could play havoc.

The offseason is therefore likely to be crucial for owner Rafael Stone and his front office. If several names are circulating to join the rockets, the question of the coach also arises to frame the talent pool he will have. If arrivals are monitored, it will also be necessary to keep a keep an eye on departures which will also risk being imperative.
