Nans Peters wins Trofeo Laigueglia after strong solo in dog weather | cycling

The Frenchman Nans Peters has won the opening race in Italy. The 60th Trofeo Laigueglia was a completely flooded edition, the 28-year-old AG2R rider successfully completed a solo of 30 km. His teammate Andrea Vendrame made it a one-two. The Italian Alessandro Covi was third.

Peters is only the second Frenchman to win the Italian 1.Pro race. Only Pascal Chanteur did it for him in 1989.

Those who think of good weather and Italy were disappointed. The weather gods ravaged the peloton, which made the 2,600 altimeters even more difficult.

In the local laps – with 4 times the Colla Micheri (2 km at 8.2 percent) – Peters left the leading group on the spot. He stayed out of the grip of a handful of pursuers, where Vendrame won the sprint.

The teammate of Greg Van Avermaet and Oliver Naesen is not a winner, but he does win nice races. This is his third victory and first one-day race. But with a ride in the 2020 Tour and the 2019 Giro, he can’t complain.
