Focus on the “overlooked” young senior players – BadmintonBladet

Written by Allan Brandt

“In Danish badminton, there is a challenge with the young players between the ages of 15 and 20, who end up a bit in “no man’s land” in the clubs.

Of course, this does not apply to all young players who become “old” enough to play senior badminton. Some are already good enough at the age of 15-17 to march straight into the club’s upper team and thus also the club’s best training. But if you, as a young player between the ages of 15 and 20, are not quite good enough to challenge the established adult players in the club, then it can be difficult for a 15-20 year old with a desire for badminton and a desire to develop.

Perhaps the young player ends up on a training session with the better U13 and U15 players, or on extended exercise training, without a really good coach. But it is not optimal for the almost adult player.

Unfortunately, therefore, there are quite a few whose good development stops at that age. Or, in the worst case, some who drop out of badminton because they cannot find their place in the club.

Thomas Laybourn and Allan Brandt try to do something about that in their “badminton project” Badminton Power. Trying to create an offer for some of these young players by establishing a training offer that can develop them further and prepare them for the “battle for places” at the senior training in their club.

In the last half of this season in the form of 3 intro trainings for what they call Team Young Seniors, which in the coming season will be expanded to 8 joint trainings during the season, supplemented by a few more benefits, as the “package” for the interested young seniors contains.

The intro training starts in mid-March and those interested can read more and sign up
