Borussia Dortmund: injury shock to Youssoufa Moukoko | Sports

Bitter news for BVB!

National striker Youssoufa Moukoko (18) is initially out with a tear in the syndesmosis.

Dortmund expects around six weeks of downtime, as sports director Sebastian Kehl (43) confirmed in the afternoon at the training ground.

One thing is clear: the striker will miss the important games in the Champions League against Chelsea (first leg on Wednesday, second leg on March 7th, both at 9 p.m.).

The young striker hobbled to the hospital on crutches just before 12 noon on Monday, where the diagnosis was made.

Kehl: “This is bitter news for him and for us. Anyone who saw the scene on Saturday knows it looked very difficult. We were hoping, but unfortunately he will be out.”

What exactly happened? In the 2-0 win in Bremen, the striker fell to the ground after a tackle from Bittencourt. A painful left ankle injury, Moukoko needs to be substituted!

Now it’s clear: it’s a crack in the syndesmosis…

Coach Edin Terzic already feared after the game: “Unfortunately it doesn’t look so good. “

Another entry in Moukoko’s medical file: Last year, the striker was out in January, February and March due to multiple muscle fiber tears. But this season he was fit and developed into Dortmund’s No. 1 striker in the first half of the season. Also due to the absence of striker Sébastien Haller (28) due to illness.

“Youssoufa will soon be scoring important goals for us again,” consoled his BVB colleague and goalscorer Julian Brandt (26).

Bitter: In March 2021, Moukoko U21 national team also suffered a tear in the syndesmosis and had to pause for around three months. Now another week-long break is imminent…
