Basketball already has a new coach

After having suffered another tough defeat last Monday against Independiente de Oliva in Pando, the dismissal of Emmanuele Quintans as head of the San Lorenzo basketball first team was agreed. This occurs in the midst of a very delicate moment, and taking advantage of the fact that after the upcoming tour in Córdoba there is a break through the FIBA window, they were going to take a few days to define.

Quintans stopped being the basketball coach: who replaces him?

Finally, the successor was within the coaching staff, and it is about Leonardo Costa, who arrived at the beginning of the season to join the work staff of the National League, where he was one of Quintans’ assistants. Something similar to what happened a year ago with the departure of Álvaro Castiñeira, and the confirmation of today’s former Barça coach.

Costa arrived at the club for this National League season and knows the squad well since he has been working with these players for the last six months. In this way, the coach will have his fifth experience leading a team, and his fourth in Argentina, although the first in a League squad. Previously, he was in charge of Temperley between 2012 and 2018, Ciclista Juninense in the 2018/2019 season, Lanús between 2020 and 2022, and his last step was in Héroes de Falcon in Venezuela.

In addition, the 44-year-old coach was on the staff of the Argentine women’s team between 2013 and 2019, where he became team leader and was in charge of the Giants. Finally, Costa stopped being the coach of the Albiceleste team after the Puerto Rico Americup in 2019, and the Pan American Games of the same year.

Costa will have the difficult task of righting the ship that has been twisted and that today is in position 19 in the standings, in the playoffs for permanence, and with a record of five wins and 19 losses. Precisely that playoff to continue in the National League would be against Atenas de Córdoba, the next rival of San Lorenzo.
