Puerto Rico is now 13th in the men’s baseball ranking

Puerto Rico climbed three positions in the men’s baseball ranking, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) revealed this Saturday.

From being ranked 16th, Puerto Rico rose to 13th, being the country with the highest growth among the top 25 in the world.

The new ranking includes the events of 2022 and takes into account participation in all men’s baseball competitions since 2019.

Participation in the Under 15 and Under 23 World Cups and Pre-World Cups was added to the new score. In addition, the Under 18 Pre-World Cup and the Caribbean Cup, where the championship and qualification for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023 were obtained. .

“The progress of men’s baseball in the world rankings was something we expected at the end of 2022. It is the result of the reactivation of the Youth National Teams program and the outstanding performance of the adult team in the recently held Caribbean Cup in the Bahamas,” indicated the president of the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation (FBPR), José Quiles, in written statements.

The event that awarded the most points to Puerto Rico this year was the Under 15 World Cup, with 280 points. The ninth Puerto Rican reached fifth place in her debut in the event.

“With a lot of effort we managed to fulfill all the international commitments in 2022. We are not satisfied because there is still a lot to work on and I understand that our baseball must be in the best positions in the world. By 2023, a significant improvement should be reflected when taking into account the work of the World Baseball Classic and other world events,” Quiles explained.

WBSC is expected to update the women’s baseball ranking in 2023. The Puerto Rican team ranks ninth in the world and this year won silver medals in the Caribbean Cup and the World Cup.
